S-Matrix for 2 Port Network

  • a1 = incident power at port1
  • b1 = reflected power or output power from port1
  • a2 = incident power at port2
  • b2 = reflected power or output power from port2
     

The Calculation

  • S_{11}=\frac{b1}{a1}/ if a2=0
     
  • S_{12}=\frac{b1}{a2}/if a1=0
     
  • S_{21}=\frac{b2}{a1}/if a2=0
     
  • S_{22}=\frac{b2}{a2}/if a1=0

The S-Matrix for 2 port network is

 where [b] is a column matrix representing output power
            [S] is a column matrix representing S-matrix
            [a] is a column matrix representing input power
