## S Matrix Calculation

### 2 Port Network

• a1 = incident power at port1
• b1 = reflected power or output power from port1
• a2 = incident power at port2
• b2 = reflected power or output power from port2

### The Calculation

• $S_{11}=\frac{b1}{a1}/ if a2=0$

• $S_{12}=\frac{b1}{a2}/if a1=0$

• $S_{21}=\frac{b2}{a1}/if a2=0$

• $S_{22}=\frac{b2}{a2}/if a1=0$

The S-Matrix for 2 port network is

• $\begin{bmatrix} b \end{bmatrix}=\begin{bmatrix} S \end{bmatrix}.\begin{bmatrix} a \end{bmatrix}$

where [b] is a column matrix representing output power
[S] is a column matrix representing S-matrix
[a] is a column matrix representing input power
