How to Answer Exam Questions

1. Practice Past Papers

There really is good option to get exam ready  by attempting past papers. Most exam are having past papers available online.Instead of just preparing an answer for a specific question, it’s about understanding how you approach a question in an exam, how to structure your solution, the timings you should assign and what exact information will get marks.

2. Read All Questions Carefully

Always keep in mind Read the question carefully,Many times it happens the stress of the situation  the eagerness to write answer can cause you to misread a question, plan your answer out, start writing your response and then suddenly realise you made a mistake and wasted vital time. Even though you generally won’t be writing answers to every question on the paper, reading all questions thoroughly will ensure you make the right choices and can highlight how much you know about the topic.

Don’t forget to attempt all questions that you have selected. However, be careful of MCQ questions with negative marking. If you’re not sure of the answer you could cost yourself some valuable marks.

3. Manage Your Time

The very vital aspect is Time management in Exam. You need to be strict on yourself. Once you have assigned a time limit for each question, you MUST move on once you hit it or you won’t be able to give the allotted time to next question.

Always Remember to leave yourself some time at the end of paper to go back over your answers and add in little notes or pieces of information about the topic and I am pretty sure this could really help you to boost up a grade!

4. Structure Your Answer

Don’t just eagerly jump into writing your answer. Take the first few seconds to plan the structure of your answer which will save your time when you are delving into meaty parts. Always stay on topicMost engineering answers should have an introduction or Definition, Block Diagram and explaination. 

6. Review Your Answers Thoroughly

Everybody make the mistake of handing their answer book in without checking through what they have written. Proofread your answers as much as you can to correct any spelling mistakes and add any extra comments you think are worth mentioning.This is your last chance to throw a light in that quotation, if possible list other relevant points or even draw a quick diagram. Remember, the exams are not designed to fail you. Don’t panic on the day of your exam.Convince yourself that you know how to answer exam questions and your almost there.

Engineering Exam Paper writing tips

The person who evaluates hardly takes 10-15 minutes for each paper evaluation. He doesn’t  go through everything so you need to present in such a way that you score maximum of points by representing or writing the matter technically correct in those papers.

I am talking only about theory exams, Remember these points whenever you write an exam.

  • Always make sure that you present your paper  in a neat manner. Avoid strikes and editing.
  • Always answer those questions first which you know very well.
  • Write in points and underline the main headings. If you write in points, the person who evaluates your answer sheet will count number of points and gives marks based on that.
  • If there are any drawings/figures related to that question, draw them neatly and write a next paragraph which explains all about the figure. This gives you length to the answer.

Tip: More drawings, more marks.

  • Sometimes even a 10 mark question can be asked for 6 marks. So you need to  see the weightage of the question and according to that you should restrict your answer.
  • If the question is about distinguish between the two, draw a neat table and distinguish them in points.(If possible draw the diagram too)
  • For short answers, be simple and straight. no need to write lengthy paragraphs.
  • For problems if you don’t know how to solve it, here is the tip. Read the question twice and write down the given data, some formulas related to question, and make some calculations related to that. Don’t write final result. Leave it.

Though you don’t know the complete answer but you can breakdown your answer according to marking scheme.

Always make sure that your answer should be short but sweet( I mean technically write)

                     This is just my way or method of dealing with exams. Although I prepare well and these tips are used by me and I always used share these tips to my students too. All the time these helped me.

As a matter of fact, I never failed in any of my engineering exams, not even once.
